Kimber Sarah Denier Books Reviews

Kimber is a riveting story about a young girl who had to deal with tragedy. It is a gripping tale of survival. I could not stop reading it. Kimber is an excellent book from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.
For an aspiring writer, the best way to start your career is to write a great book. Sarah Denier did just that when she wrote Kimber. Follow the main character, Kimber, as she deals with what life throws her way--including an Angel. For fans of Angel stories, this story is one to add to your collection.
Kimber is a story of interesting characters with several twists and turns. As the story begins, Kimber is morning the death of her mother when she talks to her boy friend Leo. Suddenly, all memory of him vanishes and Luke tries to insinuate himself into her life. Yet something about him doesn't ring true. When Leo returns to her life, she only vaguely knows that she knows him. His presence seems to bring out the worst in Luke. Leo eventually restores her memories and she learns that he is a Nephilim, descendent of the off spring of the union of an angle and a human. After a near-death experience, when Luke tries to kill her, she finds she is one as well. She quickly becomes caught up in a power play between Nephilim clans.

The story is an engaging one, though at times Sarah Denier's transitions are a little abrupt. The characters are believable, with reader quickly coming to care about them.
Kimber was an interesting read. It didn't follow the typical pattern I was expecting boy meets girl, they fall for each other, girl finds out boy is otherworldly, conflict ensues, they still end up together. Instead, Kimber knows Leo. They've been friends for years. And then one day, she can't remember him at all. Because the book didn't follow any sort of pattern I'm used to seeing in books with similar plots, I never knew what was going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat, thoroughly unable to predict what would happen next.

I loved the setting of the book because I'm familiar with that area of Florida. The Tampa area is where my husband and I go fishing out on the boat a few times each year, and also where my husband is from. Kimber's observations about the beautiful beaches and the water really spoke to me because I spend a lot of time on the water in Tampa Bay and I feel that way looking at it. I take a lot of pictures when I visit the area that are completely breathtaking, so I felt like I understood Kimber's reflections.

What I loved about Kimber was Kimber's character. The death of her mother changes her and she struggles throughout the book to figure out who she really is. Even when she tried to live as normal as possible, she was different and she was constantly coping with her loss. I liked the wide range of emotions she had and the way she remained stubborn and focused and tried to gather her own strength. She was a complicated character.

The book is written from Kimber's point of view and she was ignorant the world around her. At first, it was frustrating because I knew Leo wiped her memory, but when she woke up, she had no idea anything happened. I had to wait for her to put all the pieces together. While it was frustrating, I also liked it because so many books have a first person narration where the character is either extremely quick to figure things out or she knows way too much about the world around her. It was really interesting to watch Kimber put everything together and it kept me on the edge of my seat because I didn't know what would happen, either.

I wished the book was longer or it explored some of the avenues in it a little better and more in depth. I wanted a little bit more from the story, mostly after the halfway point. I felt like the pacing was great, but once Kimber discovered the secrets, everything sped up too much. I also felt the ending was abrupt and I wanted more, which is both a good and bad thing, I suppose! There are a few errors - nothing that I felt distracted me too much while reading, but I always mention when I notice errors because I know it bothers some readers.

I would recommend Kimber to others, especially if you enjoy YA/NA paranormal romances, but want something a little unpredictable. It was a refreshing read and I think others will like Kimber's character as much as I did and also appreciate the various types of cute guys that make an appearance throughout the book!
I seriously can't understand how this book got so many stars on the other ratings. The only thing I can think of is maybe it was friends of the author or something. It seems the only explanation to me. I couldn't even finish the book. I got exactly 50% of the way through it. Believe me when I say, that I am not a quitter. I read several books a week and I can count on one hand the amount of books that I've just given up on. I wouldn't have even got as far as 50% if the story description didn't say it was about Nephilim, because my favorite books are Angel & Nephilim Fantasy books. Anyway, even getting as far as 1/2 way through the book, it still never mentioned Nephilim, Angel, or anything supernatural/fantasy, etc. Even the supposed LEAD male character was only in the book in the very beginning and had just came back in the book when I finally had to put it down. Please understand this is not a bash against the author. The book is just simply terrible. I'm sorry for having to say that and for having to be so harsh. The problem is that I am tired of wasting my money on books that have all these great reviews and 4 or 5 stars. I'm very much starting to not trust the reviews on / anymore. So I feel it is my duty, no matter how blunt to be as honest as need be so others can read the reviews and decide for themselves whether they want to potentially risk wasting their money. The story is written in 3rd person, which I didn't find appealing at all. It didn't allow me to connect to the main character even a tiny bit. Not even through a horrible tragedy. Normally I would have been bawling my eyes out. I was just like "huh." I found myself often thoroughly confused throughout the story. I don't exactly know why. I think it's just because of poor writing and descriptions. The descriptions were strange. The lead male character supposedly has hazel eyes, but several times she calls his eyes blue-green, then they were grey, then they were blue, then they were green? Yes, I know hazel eyes often change colors, but I've honestly never heard of hazel eyes turning blue-green or grey. Then the author has the female lead describing the male lead's eye lashes "his eyelashes were turned down instead of turned up and I wandered how he could even see out of his eyes." Eyelashes turned down? Umm weird much? Those are just some examples of the strange attempts at the character description. Anyway like I said, I got 1/2 way through the book and still there was no "fantasy/nephilim/angel/supernatural" reference or anything mentioned yet. What the book is supposed to be about [what the story description says it is about) hadn't happened yet. It just seems to me that by 1/2 way through the book we should have had some more of the good stuff (supernatural) already. There was pretty much no supernatural elements in the book at that point yet. Well, except for the obvious fact that Kimber's memory had been wiped. I also found it extremely odd and unbelievable that she wouldn't wander quite alot more and not try to find out how the heck she just completely forgot just 1 person who was supposedly someone very special to her! Also, I believe the story description says she follows him to Egypt? Well, 1/2 way through the book and that still hadn't happened, and it didn't seem anywhere near happening. O.K. I'm done. I hope this is enough to help you make your decision and know whether it seems as though it's something you'll like.
amazing book, amazing author! it's great book for all ages. i can't wait for the next one to come out.
